Ingredients:
- 1 cup plantain infused oil (you can make this by infusing dried plantain leaves in a carrier oil, such as olive or sweet almond oil, for 4-6 weeks)
- 1/4 cup beeswax (grated)
- Optional: 10-15 drops of essential oil (like lavender or tea tree) for added properties and fragrance
Equipment:
- Double boiler or a small saucepan and heat-safe bowl
- Strainer or cheesecloth
- Glass jar or tin for storage
- Spoon for mixing
- Measuring cups and spoons
Instructions:
- In a double boiler or saucepan, combine the plantain oil and grated beeswax. Heat gently until the beeswax melts completely, stirring occasionally. This usually takes about 5-10 minutes. If desired, add the essential oils at this point and stir well to combine.
- Once the beeswax is fully melted and mixed in, carefully pour the salve mixture into a glass jar or tin. Be cautious, as the mixture will be hot. Allow the salve to cool and set completely at room temperature. This may take a couple of hours.
- Once cooled, cover the jar or tin with a lid. Store the salve in a cool, dry place. It should keep for about 6-12 months.
