Ingredients:
- 1 cup calendula-infused oil (you can make this by infusing dried calendula flowers in a carrier oil, such as olive or sweet almond oil, for 4-6 weeks)
- 1/4 cup beeswax (or plant-based wax for a vegan option)
- 10-15 drops of essential oil (optional, such as lavender or tea tree oil for added benefits)
- 1 teaspoon vitamin E oil (optional, as an antioxidant and skin nourish)
Equipment:
- Double boiler or a heatproof bowl over simmering water
- Fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth (if you’re making your own infused oil)
- Glass jar or tin for storage
- Measuring cups and spoons
- Stirring utensil
Instructions:
- Infuse the Oil: Place dried calendula flowers in a clean glass jar and cover them with your chosen carrier oil. Seal the jar and place it in a warm, sunny spot for 4-6 weeks, shaking it gently every few days. After the infusion period, strain the oil through a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth to remove the flowers.
- Melt the Beeswax: In a double boiler, combine the calendula-infused oil and beeswax. Heat gently over low to medium heat until the beeswax is fully melted, stirring occasionally to combine the two ingredients.
- Add Essential Oils (Optional): Once the beeswax is melted and well mixed with the oil, remove the mixture from heat. If desired, add your chosen essential oils and vitamin E oil, stirring thoroughly to ensure even distribution.
- Cool and Store: Pour the mixture into clean glass jars or tins while it’s still warm and liquid. Allow it to cool completely at room temperature, where it will solidify into a salve.
### Tips: Thicker or Thinner Salve: Adjust the amount of beeswax depending on your desired consistency. More beeswax will create a firmer salve, while less will yield a softer salve.
