Instructions

  1. Freeze the pumpkin puree in ice cube trays. I like to make my pumpkin puree from baking pumpkin at 350o about 30 minutes or until tender then scooping out the flesh and blending it but you can use canned pumpkin puree as well
  2. I like to heat my oils and butters over my woodstove but you could use a cookstove on low heat or a crockpot to melt and combine the oils butters.
  3. Remove from heat and let cool while preparing lye mixture
  4. Use an immersion blender to crush the pumpkin puree ice cubes until slushy then add the water
  5. Next add the lye to the pumpkin mixture little by little while gently stirring. You should do this in a WELL VENTILATED area and wear protective SAFETY GLASSES and GLOVES! Always add the lye to the pumpkin. If you add the pumpkin to the lye it can explode and cause burns. Keep vinegar on hand to rinse your skin immediately in case of lye burns.
  6. Once the lye has dissolved, add this mixture to the oils.
  7. Mix with an immersion blender until it comes to trace.
  8. Quickly add the ground cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg and blend until combined
  9. Pour into molds and keep as cool as possible for 48 hours. I like to make this soap in the winter so I can keep it outside while it sets.
  10. Remove from molds and cut the bars to size.
  11. Let the bars cure for a minimum of 6 weeks before using.
