Ingredients

  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 2 cups milk
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 1 cup granulated white sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Combine all ingredients in a sauce pan and heat over medium heat stirring frequently until some sticks to the spoon when the spoon is lifted out of the mixture. Do not allow to boil
  2. If you plan to make chocolate ice cream, melt sweetened bar chocolate in the sauce pan before adding the other ingredients. If you plan to add fruit, stir it in after removing the sauce pan from the heat. Using frozen fruit will speed the process greatly. Make a delicious coffee ice cream by adding a strong cup of chilled coffee. Add pumpkin puree, cinnamon, and nutmeg for a pumpkin spice ice cream. The possibilities are endless!
  3. Transfer into a bowl and chill for several hours
  4. Pour the mixture into the ice cream maker and proceed as instructed by the type of ice cream maker you are using
