Crème Brulée

Indulge in the luxurious delight of crème brûlée, a classic French dessert that features a rich and creamy custard base topped with a perfectly caramelized sugar crust. This elegant treat offers a delightful contrast between the velvety smoothness of the custard and the satisfying crack of the sugar topping, making it a timeless favorite that elevates any dining experience.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 5 egg yolks
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • pinch of salt
  • 1/4 cup sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 325o
  2. Heat up the cream in a sauce pan under low heat until starting to bubble
  3. In a bowl, beat together egg yolks, 1/3 cup of sugar, vanilla, and salt
  4. Add bubbling cream into egg mixture slowly while whisking
  5. Place 6 custard cups in a baking dish with 1 inch of water on the bottom. Pour the mixture into the custard cups.
  6. Bake for 30 minutes until toothpick test comes out clean.
  7. Remove cups from water and refrigerate until completely chilled. (at least 1 hour)
  8. Sprinkle remaining sugar over the tops of the custards, torch with a butane kitchen torch until the sugar caramelizes. Let cool until the caramelized sugar hardens.
