Apple Crisp

This classic apple crisp features tender, spiced apples topped with a buttery, crunchy oat topping. It’s a comforting dessert that’s perfect for fall, served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream!

Ingredients:

  • For the Apple Filling:
    – 6 cups apples, peeled, cored, and sliced (about 6-8 medium apples; a mix of sweet and tart varieties like Granny Smith and Honeycrisp works well)
    – 1/2 cup granulated sugar
    – 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
    – 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)
    – 1 tablespoon lemon juice
    – 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • For the Crisp Topping:
    – 1 cup rolled oats
    – 1 cup all-purpose flour
    – 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
    – 1/2 cup granulated sugar
    – 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
    – 1/4 teaspoon salt
    – 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

Instructions:

1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg (if using), lemon juice, and flour. Toss until the apples are well coated. Transfer the apple mixture to a greased 9×13-inch baking dish, spreading it evenly.

3. In a separate bowl, mix together the rolled oats, flour, brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Pour in the melted butter and stir until the mixture is well combined and crumbly.

4. Evenly distribute the oat topping over the apple filling in the baking dish.

5. Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the topping is golden brown and crispy.

6. Allow the apple crisp to cool for a few minutes before serving. Serve warm, ideally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a drizzle of heavy cream.
