Ingredients:
• 1 pound ribeye steak or flank steak, thinly sliced
• 2 tablespoons olive oil
• 1 onion, thinly sliced
• 1 bell pepper, thinly sliced (optional)
• Salt and pepper, to taste
• 4 slices provolone cheese
• 4 hoagie rolls
• Optional toppings: mushrooms, jalapeños, or additional cheese
Instructions:
1. Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the sliced onions (and bell peppers, if using) and sauté until they are softened and caramelized, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
2. In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of olive oil. Increase the heat to high and add the thinly sliced steak, seasoning with salt and pepper. Cook for 2-3 minutes, stirring frequently, until the beef is browned and cooked through.
3. Return the sautéed onions (and bell peppers) to the skillet with the steak. Stir to combine and heat through.
4. Divide the beef and onion mixture into portions in the skillet and place a slice of cheese on top of each portion. Cover the skillet with a lid for a minute or until the cheese is melted.
5. While the cheese is melting, slice the hoagie rolls open and toast them if desired.
6. Using a spatula, transfer the cheesy beef mixture onto the toasted hoagie rolls.
7. Enjoy this delicious Philly cheesesteak as a hearty and satisfying meal that captures the essence of a classic American favorite!
