Pita Bread

Pita bread is a soft and versatile Middle Eastern flatbread that can be used in a variety of dishes, from wraps to dipping bread. With its signature pocket, it’s perfect for stuffing with your favorite fillings or serving alongside dips like hummus and tzatziki.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon instant yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 3/4 cup warm water

Instructions
1. In a large bowl, combine the flour, instant yeast, and salt. Add the olive oil and warm water, mixing until a dough forms.
2. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until it is smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
3. Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C) and place a baking stone or an inverted baking sheet inside to heat.
4. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball and then flatten it into a circle about 1/4 inch thick.
5. Carefully place the flattened dough onto the preheated baking stone or baking sheet and bake for 3-5 minutes, or until the pita puffs up and is lightly golden.
6. Remove from the oven and cover with a clean towel to keep the pita bread warm and soft until ready to serve.
