Bone Broth

Bone broth is a nourishing and flavorful staple that’s perfect for sipping on its own or using as a base for soups and stews. Packed with nutrients and collagen, this simple recipe will guide you to create a rich and hearty broth that warms the soul.

Ingredients:

  • 2-3 pounds of bones (beef, chicken, or a mix)
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1 onion, quartered
  • 2 carrots, roughly chopped
  • 2 celery stalks, roughly chopped
  • 4-5 garlic cloves, smashed
  • 10-12 cups of water
  • Fresh herbs (like thyme or parsley) for flavor (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:
1. Prepare the Bones: If using raw bones, roast them in a 400° oven for 30-40 minutes to enhance the flavor. This step is optional but adds depth to your broth.

2. Combine Ingredients: In a large stockpot or slow cooker, combine the bones, apple cider vinegar, onion, carrots, celery, garlic, and any fresh herbs. Pour in enough water to cover the ingredients by about an inch.

3. Cook the Broth: Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer over medium heat. If using a stockpot, reduce to low and let simmer for 12-24 hours; for a slow cooker, set it on low for 24-48 hours. The longer it simmers, the richer the flavor.

4. Strain and Store: Once done, strain the broth through a fine-mesh sieve into a large bowl or directly into jars. Discard the solids and let the broth cool before refrigerating or freezing for later use.

5. Enjoy: Season the broth with salt and pepper to taste. Sip it warm, or use it as a base for your favorite recipes!
